Know the Law
According to CAL FIRE, although many places in California outlaw fireworks due to the threat of property damage and wildfires, there are Safe and Sane zones in some cities where fireworks are allowed. SERVPRO® of Northeast Ontario/Kaiser encourages the residents of the Ontario and Kaiser communities to check your local laws to find out if fireworks are legal where you live, and if there are designated Safe and Sane fireworks areas. California also has zero-tolerance for the sale and use of illegal fireworks including:
- Sky rockets
- Bottle rockets
- Roman candles
- Aerial shells
- Firecrackers
- Other fireworks that explode, go into the air, or move on the ground in an uncontrollable manner
Sparklers Cause One-Quarter of Emergency Room Visits
In a 2018 report issued by The National Fire Protection Association, (NFPA), fireworks started around 19,500 fires including 1900 structure fires amounting to $105 million in direct property damage. Children ages 10 – 14 had the highest rate of fireworks injury and 36 percent of all injuries were victims under age 15.
