Backyard Fire Permits in Ontario?

Backyard Fire Safety
It’s Summertime and Ontario residents will be spending more time outdoors, taking advantage of the nice weather and longer days that the season brings. Many people install fire pits in their back yards and like to gather around the fire in the cool evening air to tell stories and socialize. The City of Ontario has outdoor fire rules and requires a permit to have a backyard fire so it will be important to check and see what is required to stay within the law. SERVPRO® of Northeast Ontario/Kaiser is on call 24 hours a day and can be onsite within four hours of your call to immediately begin the cleanup and restoration process should you experience property damage due to a fire of any kind. Here are some tips from The National Fire Protection Association and ReadyWV on fire pit safety:
- Check wind direction before lighting a fire
- Don’t use flammable fluids (gasoline, lighter fluid, etc.) to light or relight fires
- Don’t wear flammable clothing (like nylon) or any loose-fitting clothing
- Keep children and pets at least 3 feet away from the fire
- Avoid using softwoods like pine or cedar, because they can “pop” and throw sparks
- Keep a fire extinguisher, garden hose or bucket of water nearby
